First of all – want to say thanks so much for the Happy Birthday e-mails, comments, tweets, and texts. You guys are the best! I had an absolutely wonderful birthday. My mom made me a photo album with pictures from the last 25 years, so I’m thinking about busting some of those out for some upcoming blog posts. My mom called and was like “so what did you think of those pictures?” and my response was “well, I was a really cute baby/toddler, a really fat awkward adolescent, and a really thin and beautiful high schooler.” HA. My mom was like yeah, that’s not exactly what I was asking, but okay. Ha.
As some of you may remember, my roommate got in a wreck in my car. It was in the shop for 2.5 weeks, and I finally picked it up on Thursday night, just in time to pick up my friends from the airport on Friday morning. I also had to pay a $472 deductible, FML.
Yeah. I have had this car for 5 years now without a single incident (except one flat tire, but I hardly think you can call that an incident). And actually I had my old car for 4 years before that with only 1 minor incident (a little scrape quite similar to this one, now that I think about it). And now it’s been out of the shop for 3 whole days and I run into the freaking exit box in the parking garage. Damn it.I have not told my parents about this little incident yet. I guess I’ll be using some of my graduation money to get that fixed. Fffffff.
Also - my little brother graduates from undergrad this weekend. His girlfriend texted me and asked for suggestions for something to get him a graduation present. Any suggestions for what to get a 22 year old boy for college graduation? All I can think of is concert tickets.

Glad you had a wonderful bday!
ReplyDeleteYou know what's weird, I have the same car and my mom clipped the bumper on the side of the garage when backing out (don't ask) and it came off the same way yours did. We had to get the entire thing replaced which suckkkkked. I love my car but hate that a tiny little snagged bumper means having to replace it with a brand new one.
Congrats to your brother! The first thing that came to mind was booze. Then I thought iPad. But I guess it depends how much you love him :)
1) What did you get in your birthday packages? I'm dying to know!
ReplyDelete2) Car accidents suck. I'm driving around my new car like it's made of glass because I'm worried about the smallest nick or bump.
3) Hmmm, gifts for the graduate. This is cheesy, but you could get him a really nice professional item for his chosen career - like a really nice monogrammed briefcase or something. I don't know what he's going to do or if he has a job, but you get the general idea. Something he can use in his future endeavors.
When little brother graduated last year, I bought him the frame for his degree. I also considered a gift card to Target, for all the little things he would need for setting up a post-grad apartment, or a leather portfolio -- most of the guys I work with have a nice one for taking notes during meetings, keeping business cards, etc.
ReplyDeletei guess something practical, like a leather portfolio mentioned above, or a gift card to buy interview clothes.
ReplyDeletea fancy, schmancy coffee press and mug. because not getting up until 1:30 for your 2:00 class is no longer reality. take it from a recent grad.
